After forge welding and forging, the Damascus was
treated as follows:

Normalized 2x
Annealed for fine grain 4x
Soft annealed 1x ("Divorced eutectoid transformation" according to Dr. Verhoeven)

This heat treatment gives the Damascus a very fine microstructure!
